What Is Home Cooking? A Guide to Home-Based Food, Local Cooks, and Freshly Prepared Meals
Looking for homemade meals nearby? Want to share the food you make with more customers? Or do you run a business that needs a reliable home-based food seller for larger orders?
Home Cooking is a platform that helps home cooks, home-based food businesses, and customers discover one another. It brings homemade food listings, customer requests, and direct communication into one place.
Home cooks can showcase what they make, while customers can explore ready-to-pick-up meals, post food requests, and find nearby sellers. The platform also includes Ask City, a local food discussion space, and Business, a section designed to connect sellers with businesses looking to place larger orders.
What Is the Home Cooking App?
Home Cooking is an online marketplace focused on food prepared by independent home cooks and home-based food sellers. Depending on your area, you may see homemade main dishes, baked goods, pastries, desserts, and other food products.
Instead of browsing scattered social media accounts to find a home cook, customers can explore listings, search for specific foods, and discover sellers near their location.
Home Cooking is more than a product directory. Customers can also describe the meals they want, and home cooks can find opportunities by viewing those requests or listing food they already have available.
In the United States, people sometimes use terms such as home-based food business or cottage food business when discussing food sold by individuals. Those terms do not mean exactly the same thing everywhere: cottage food rules and the foods permitted for sale differ by state and locality. Home Cooking does not itself grant permission to prepare or sell regulated foods.
Home Cooking Features for Home Cooks and Food Sellers
If you prepare food at home, you can create a seller profile, showcase your dishes, and connect with customers interested in homemade food.
1. List Food That's Ready to Sell
Have meals or baked goods already prepared and available?
With List Your Ready-Made Food (List Your Ready-Made Food), you can let nearby customers know what you currently have for sale. They can discover your listing and contact you to confirm availability and arrange a purchase.
This makes it easier to reach people who want food that is already prepared rather than waiting for a new order to be cooked.
2. Browse Customer Food Requests
You don't always have to wait for customers to find your menu. The Customer Requests feature lets you see the food customers are looking for.
Someone might need a regional specialty, desserts for a gathering, or a particular quantity of a dish. You can review requests and respond to the ones that match what you offer.
3. Available for Pickup from the Home Cook
If customers can collect food directly from your home-based business, you can use Available for Home Pickup (متاح للاستلام من المنزل).
When you choose to list your profile in this section, customers can find home cooks who offer pickup and contact them to agree on the order and pickup time.
The feature is useful for customers who prefer local pickup from the seller's home. Pickup details must be agreed directly with the seller; an in-app delivery or pickup-tracking system is not provided.
Home Cooking Features for Customers
Home Cooking offers several ways to find food from home cooks, beyond browsing existing listings.
1. Post What You're Looking For
Have a specific homemade dish in mind but can't find it in the listings?
Use Post Your Food Request (اعرض طلباتك) to describe what you want so that home cooks can discover your request and respond.
Whether you're looking for dinner, a regional favorite, desserts, or food for an occasion, you can tell sellers what you need instead of relying on search alone.
2. Find Ready-Made Homemade Food
If you want something already prepared, browse Ready-Made Food (طبخات جاهزة).
This feature helps you find food sellers who have listed dishes as ready for sale. You can contact a seller to confirm that an item is still available and discuss pickup or delivery arrangements directly.
3. Pick Up Food from a Home-Based Seller
Find home cooks who have opted into the home-pickup section and contact someone nearby to agree on your order, pickup location, and pickup time.
Availability depends on participating sellers. Home Cooking does not guarantee that a particular item or pickup option will be available.
Ask City: Talk About Homemade Food in Your Area
Ask City (اسأل مدينتك) is a community feature for local questions, requests, and offers related to homemade food.
Looking for someone in your city who makes a particular dish? Post a question so other users can see it and reply. Home cooks can also take part in food-related conversations and respond to relevant requests.
Ask City is designed to make local homemade food easier to discover through text posts and replies. It is not a private messaging service or a photo-sharing feature.
Explore and Search for Local Homemade Food
Home Cooking gives customers two main ways to discover cooks and products.
Explore
The Explore section lets you browse food content from participating home cooks, discover dishes and desserts, and visit seller profiles for more information about what they offer.
Search
Have a dish in mind? Use Search to look for food by name or related keywords.
Search helps surface relevant listings while taking location into account, so you can focus on suitable options closer to you. For example, you might search for kabsa, stuffed grape leaves, maamoul, or other homemade specialties.
Business: Larger Orders for Companies and Food Businesses
Home Cooking isn't limited to individual purchases. The Business section (أعمال) helps connect business buyers with home-based food sellers interested in larger or recurring orders.
A café, shop, or other food business may want to source particular items or discuss regular quantities with an independent seller.
Through Business, buyers can explore participating seller profiles and contact them directly to negotiate items, quantities, prices, and delivery dates. Home cooks can choose to list their profiles if they're prepared to discuss business orders and meet agreed quantities and deadlines.
Home Cooking also aims to promote this section to business owners and help participating home cooks become more visible to potential commercial buyers.
Visit the Home Cooking website to explore Business (select the Business section in the website navigation).
What Are Home Cooking's Commission Rates?
Home Cooking uses seller-side commissions for sales generated through the platform's services.
Standard Sales: 5%
The seller—the home cook or food provider—pays a 5% commission on standard sales.
Business Section Sales: 15%
The seller pays a 15% commission on sales generated through the Business section.
These platform commissions are not charged to the customer or buyer. They are seller obligations under the relevant service category; the app does not automatically process these payments.
How Do I Order Homemade Food on Home Cooking?
Start by exploring food listings, searching for a dish, or browsing ready-made food. Once you find a home cook or seller, contact them directly using the available contact options, including WhatsApp where offered.
You and the seller arrange the price, order details, and pickup or delivery directly. Home Cooking does not provide in-app checkout, in-app payment processing, or delivery tracking.
How Do I Start Selling Home-Cooked Food?
Install Home Cooking, create an account, and choose the Home Cook / Food Provider account type when signing up.
Set up your profile and add information and photos of the food you offer. You can then list food that's ready to sell, review customer requests, make yourself available for home pickup, and choose to appear in Business if you're prepared to discuss larger orders.
Always follow the applicable food-safety, licensing, and home-based food sales rules where you live. In the U.S., state and local cottage food requirements may be narrower than the range of foods shown on an international marketplace.
Why Use Home Cooking?
Home Cooking makes it easier for people interested in homemade food to find one another.
Customers can discover nearby meals, post requests, and ask local food questions instead of browsing unrelated accounts and listings. Home cooks can show what they offer, see what customers want, and explore both individual and business sales opportunities.
The goal is straightforward: make local homemade food easier to discover while helping independent cooks connect directly with potential customers.
